The Sahr Sogbandi Foday Foundation is an NGO partnering with the Ministry of Health to impact and save lives by providing access to quality healthcare by constructing a Peripheral Health Unit (PHU)in the Loko Town Community. The Foundation is in its early stage and the construction of the healthcare Centre is its first major project.
The Community Health Centre Construction Project aims to complete the construction of a Peripheral Health Unit in the Loko Town community, East-End of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Loko Town and its surrounding settlements do not have government health facilities where people can access quality healthcare services for women and children.
This project was conceived and started in April 2022 by The Sahr Sogbandi Foday Foundation. It is an idea and opportunity for profit and non-profit organizations that aim to impact and save lives through the provision of access to quality healthcare; to contribute and be part of a project started by the Foundation, which has provided the land and initial funding to build the Health Care Centre and Multi-Purpose Hall.
The country’s Ministry of Health & Sanitation has indicated commitment to support the health facility providing health workers to manage the health facility after construction. Hence, the Foundation has embarked on a fundraising campaign to raise the necessary funds to complete the construction of the Health Care Centre.
The primary beneficiaries of this project are the population of 290,496 people in the community, especially women and children of Loko Town. Pregnant women and sick children in need of medical attention and care commute on foot and via any other means on a 5-kilometer journey to the nearest healthcare facility. The provision of a facility that can handle deliveries for pregnant women and treat sick children is a long overdue need that will directly reduce maternal and child mortality in this community.
In furtherance of the goal to save and improve the lives of the community people, the Health Care Centre will come with a 200-capacity multi-purpose hall that will be used for training, health education, and community engagement regarding health interventions, including Telemedicine and other social actions.
